Miniature Pinscher (Min Pin)

Miniature Pinscher is a small breed of dog originating from Germany. The breeds ancestors may have included the German Pinscher, mixed with Italian Greyhound and Daschshunds. Miniature Pinschers were also named Miniature Dobermans, this occured when the Doberman Pinscher was brought to the US before the Miniature Pinscher. In 1919 the Min Pin was introduced to the AKC show ring, not knowing that at the time it was referred to officially in Germany as the Zwergpinscher (little biter), the AKC simply referred the breed to Pinscher. In 1929 the Min Pin Club of America petitioned for min pins to be placed in the toy group. The AKC description, that the dog "must appear as a Doberman in Miniature" led to the misconception common today that this breed is a Miniature Doberman Pinscher. The original name for this breed in the states was Pinscher(Toy) until 1972 when the name was officially changed to Miniature Pinscher. The min pin was originally used as a barnyard ratter, used to control rodent population in stables and on ships.
The Min Pins appearence is structually a well balanced, sturdy, compact, smooth coated dog. They are naturally well groomed, vigorous and alert. The coat is short and smooth with no undercoat. The colors available that I breed are Black and Rust, Red Stag, Fawn, and Chocolate and Rust (Rare). To groom is easy as the smooth short hair needs little attention only occasional brushing and shampooing. However during cold weather sweaters and blankets keep min pins from getting too cold.
Min Pins are for experienced dog owners. They are assertive, outgoing, active and independant breed. They are a very energetic breed they need a fenced in yard to run or be taken on walks, they are great escape artists. Min Pins are very loyal to their owners and are a very loving dog. All of our puppies are well socialized with people, children, other dogs and cats.
